Go to the Bicycle Film Festival, win an E-Bike!

The great team at Ridley’s Cycle  is combining two things that youth love – Bicycles and Movies – into an event to support Youth en Route.

Ridley’s is bringing the 25th Anniversary edition of the Bicycle Film Festival to Calgary on August 15 for one showing at the Globe Theater. (With only 350 tickets for sale, you should get yours now! )  An international event, the BFF selects short films that tell diverse stories about bikes, often showing how they empower people around the world.  Started in 2001, BFF screenings have happened in over 100 cities worldwide. This is the first in-person BFF in Calgary – there was an online version that happened in 2020 – and Youth en Route is thrilled to be a part of it.

We are honored to be the beneficiary  of proceeds of the BFF,  which will bring Southern Alberta’s cycling community together for some informative and inspiring films.  To raise some extra money and build awareness of the BFF, Ridley’s, with support of their suppliers and partners, have donated a variety of prizes for a Youth en Route / BFF Raffle. Tickets are just $10 each.

“Youth en Route uses our favourite tools, education and the bicycle, to bring joy and confidence to students in our community,” said Ridley’s owner Kristyn Hall. “Youth enRoute’s programs allow youth, who may never have the opportunity otherwise, to fall in love with cycling. We are thrilled to be able to support their work.”

Connecting and celebrating cycling

“Youth en Route is thrilled to be the recipient of this support,” said Laura Shutiak, executive director of Youth en Route, which empowers youth with the skills, confidence and equipment to ride a bike to get where they want to go. “In our four short years of existence, we’ve grown to reach an amazing number of youth. One week at a school costs us about $5,000 – in staffing, equipment moving and bike fleet maintenance.  These funds come at a very welcome time and will help us get on the right path for the 2024-25 school year,” said Shutiak.
