CycleFest 2026: Celebrating the Bicycling Community in Calgary

Cities around the world are increasingly rethinking how people move through their communities. From safer streets to more sustainable transportation options, cycling is becoming an important part of building healthier and more connected urban environments.
In 2026, Youth en Route will bring Calgary’s cycling community together for a new event that celebrates these ideas: CycleFest 2026.
The event will bring together families, community organizations, and local partners to celebrate cycling while exploring how active transportation can support healthier communities and more sustainable cities.
The inaugural festival will take place at the beautiful outdoor grounds of The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland and the adjacent East Village, providing a vibrant and welcoming space where Calgarians can connect, learn, and ride together.
A Community Event for Everyone
CycleFest is designed as an inclusive community-centered festival, bringing together families, cycling enthusiasts, local organizations, and businesses for a day of connection and celebration. Attendees can explore a variety of activities throughout the festival grounds while learning more about the cycling culture that continues to grow in Calgary.
The event will feature a vibrant mix of community partners, local vendors, and interactive spaces where visitors can meet organizations working to support active transportation and healthy communities.
While CycleFest is a community-wide event, youth programming remains an important part of the day. At Youth en Route, our work focuses on helping young people build the skills and confidence they need to move safely through their communities. Cycling is one of the most accessible forms of active transportation and can empower youth with greater independence while supporting healthy lifestyles. Youth en Route will host Learn to Bike programming, providing opportunities for young riders to build confidence and develop cycling skills in a supportive environment. These sessions are designed to make cycling more accessible for youth who may be learning to ride for the first time, helping them develop comfort and independence on a bike.
At the same time, cycling also contributes to broader sustainability goals by encouraging transportation choices that reduce environmental impacts and promote more livable cities. By supporting youth cycling programs and community engagement, CycleFest aims to highlight the role that everyday mobility choices can play in shaping a more sustainable future.
CycleFest 2026 will feature a variety of activities designed to engage families, youth, and community members of all ages.
One of the signature events of CycleFest will be the Kids Bike Trade Up, which helps ensure children always have access to a properly sized bike as they grow. As kids quickly outgrow their bicycles, families may face financial or logistical barriers to replacing them. This initiative allows families to trade in bikes for appropriately sized ones, helping keep young riders active and safe while promoting the reuse of bikes within the community.
Learn to Bicycle
Youth en Route knows from our school programs that many people miss out on a childhood right-of-passage – learning to ride a bike. We’ll offer space, encouragement, and equipment to teach anyone to balance, control, and pedal a bike. Using our fleet of adult strider bikes and with our expert Cyclists-in Residence, we have the skills and experience to get everyone riding! It will be the most joyous part of Cyclefest!
Guided tours of the Cycletracks
Another highlight of CycleFest will be a series of guided rides that invite participants to explore Calgary by bike. These rides will provide a welcoming opportunity for riders of different skill levels to experience cycling in a social and supportive setting while discovering routes and spaces around the city.
Calgary’s Cycletracks are amazing, allowing safe rolling to and across the downtown core. But many new cyclists, and drivers alike, find riding on them, or driving alongside, can be bewildering if you don’t know where to look for signals, or understand traffic flows. With partners from The Calgary Climate Hub, we’ll demystify the Cycletracks and make it safer for everyone. Bring your bike, and a team of expert mechanics will give it a thorough evaluation for safety and operational integrity. Small adjustments will be made, but issues will be noted to allow you to take it for repair to a local bike shop or fix it yourself, with the support of mechanics at the Bike Hub.
CycleFest will bring together local organizations, cycling groups, and community partners who are working to support active transportation in Calgary. The vendor area will allow attendees to explore and swap for new gear, discover cycling programs, and learn about initiatives promoting sustainable mobility and safer streets.
To create a welcoming festival atmosphere, CycleFest will also feature local food vendors and family-friendly activities. These spaces are designed to encourage conversation, connection, and celebration among Calgary’s cycling community
