Meet our 2025 Summer Students

Youth en Route is happy to welcome young students to our team—especially during our spring cycling season.  This year, we’re excited to introduce our Canada Summer Job Students; Reese and Georgia.

Reese is a student at Mount Royal University, where she finished her third year in marketing and data analytics. Reese is taking on the role of Bike Valet for the Youth en Route team. You’ll often find her on the go, crisscrossing Calgary to pick up or drop off bikes. If a bike needs to be somewhere, Reese makes sure it gets there safely and on time. Behind the scenes, she also helps manage our systems and tech—keeping track of inventory, bike requests, and storage logistics.

When she’s not working, Reese loves staying active—whether she’s at the gym, playing tennis, or out on the trails. One of her favourite spots to hike is Pickle Jar Lakes, a place full of family memories. And when it’s time to relax, she enjoys spending time with friends and her two dogs, Piper and Georgie.

For Reese, working at Youth en Route is a meaningful experience. No two days are the same, and there’s always something new to do or learn. She loves having the chance to take initiative and be part of a team that’s making a difference.

Let’s meet Georgia

Like many of the amazing folks here at Youth en Route, I’m a student at Mount Royal University. I’m in my third year of the Bachelor of Communications program, specializing in Information Design. I’ve joined the team as Youth en Route’s Communications Student, and I’ve already learned so much in just a short time.

Most of my work happens behind the scenes, where I manage our social media, organize and compile data, and conduct interviews to help tell the stories showing the impact this small organization is making in our city.

Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors, taking care of my growing collection of plants, and spending quality time with friends, family, and my small herd of pets—two cats and two dogs. I’m also a big fan of lattes and have a serious soft spot for Ms. Vickie’s salt and vinegar chips.

“We are all about youth, and learning new skills, so it’s a natural that we love bringing students onboard to support our work,” said Laura Shutiak, YER’s Executive Director. “We benefit from their energy, ideas and perspective, and there are many days when I think they are delivering far more than we expect for their wages.”

Even though I’ve only just started at Youth en Route, I already feel so welcomed by the team. I’m excited to support the mission of helping more kids get where they want to go—safely, confidently, and through active transportation.
